Essentials: Risk assessment

Turn survey data into formal risk assessments with inherent, exposure, and residual scoring.

A WHS manager in her late 30s sitting on the edge of a desk in a bright, open office, in relaxed conversation with two workers who have stopped by — one leaning against a doorframe, the other perched on a nearby chair. The conversation is informal and genuine: she is listening with full attention, one hand gesturing lightly as she responds. No laptop is open. No phone is visible. She is fully present with the people in front of her, not at a screen. The scene captures the feeling of capacity returned.

This module shows you how to turn the survey data you've collected into formal risk assessments. By the end, you'll be able to take a hazard surfaced in your Risk Profile, create a risk assessment for it, score the inherent and residual risk, and track it through your management workflow.

Survey results don't manage risk on their own. To meet your legal duty under work health and safety law, the risks your workforce has flagged need to become formal entries in your Risk Register with documented scoring, controls, and treatment strategies.

What you'll learn:

  • How to go from a survey hazard to a risk assessment in your register

  • How to use the Scenario Library and when to create a custom assessment

  • How to score inherent and residual risk

  • How to capture exposure and set status and treatment strategy

  • How to filter and review risks by hazard category

Is this module for you?

If you're a WHS lead, people leader, or compliance manager who's responsible for documenting and managing psychosocial risk, this module is for you. It assumes you've completed the Surveys module and have a completed survey to work from.

This is where compliance work starts to feel concrete. The risk assessments you build here are the artefacts a regulator would ask to see, and the foundation for the controls and reporting work that comes next.
